New Features Outlined

Extended User Profiles
When you registered, you were asked a couple of questions in addition to just providing your name and email address. This information forms the basic public profile that people will see when they click on your name. Once you are registered, be sure to update your profile fields. The fields are clickable so you can very easily find all the members who graduated in your year or who are say, living in Toronto. You now have the capability to update this information any time you wish on your own. No site admin is needed to make the changes.

Private Messaging
One of the weaknesses of the previous site was that your email address was on public display. This made it easy for people to email you *BUT* it also made it easy for spammers to harvest valid email addresses. Sorry!

Now, with the exception of the site admin, no registered member ever sees your email address. But, everyone now has access to private messaging which works like an internal site email. You can easily message people on your Friends list as well as forward and reply to received messages. If you are on Facebook, you already know how this works.

Friends
Connecting with your classmates is now much easier. Simply request any registered Alumni to be your “Friend”. If they accept, the connection is made. Quickly build a browsable list of people you want to stay in contact with. Because it is so easy to search for members by name or profile data, you’ll be able to “link up” in no time.

Groups
Reunions are a great example of how the Groups function can be used. Groups are gatherings of members and wire posts. Any registered member can create any number of groups. Groups can be public, private, or by invitation only. Groups can have their own administrator with special privileges.

The Wire
This feature is kind of like “The Wall” in Facebook. Friends and members can come along and post messages to a specific piece of content on the site. The Wire is a great way to start a conversation. All information posted on a Wire is Public.

Activity Streams
When you log in, the home page displays a notice detailing the latest activity on the site. But you can also check out details of your friends activities. What groups have they joined? What new blog posts have they made?

Blog Tracking
One of the great new features of this WordPressMU/BuddyPress installation is the fact that now people can have their own dedicated blog/s. The Blog Tracking feature allows you to quickly see what new posts have been created and what new comments might have been made on those posts.
